Any news on the new garfield series?

I heard that Mark Evainer is working on (or at least writing for) a new garfield animated series a while ago, any further news on the show?

I would assume plans were either canceled, or its still in the development stages. I recall Mark saying the new show would be CGI, and follow the continuity of the feature films, not the comic strip, or the original TV series.

Honestly, I think they should just stop whoring out the Garfield franchise altogether. The movies sucked and the current comic strips themselves have completely lost their charm. It makes me wonder if the franchise will even continue after Jim Davis kicks the bucket. And honestly, I can't imagine anyone else doing a good job at playing Garfield other than the late Lorenzo Music. Bill Murray was also a good voice actor for Garfield, but I don't think animated television shows are his thing.

The Garfield Comic has actually gotten decent.

As far as the new cartoon wasn't this just announced recently? i don't think it'd be canceled yet. The good news was that the writer or someone responsible sof Garfield and Friends would be the same. I remember reading that a few months back here in TZ.

Could Dave Coulier do it? He did a decent job as peter venkman in season 1 of the real ghostbusters, and since that role was simply him impersonating bill murray, he could probably pull it off, plus, he'd probably jump at the chance to do it since he's been out of the public eye for over 10 yrs now.

Around the time the first film came out (which I found nowhere near as bad as people were making it out to be), there was a series of cat food commercials featuring Garfield. It did not feature Bill Murray's voice, but someone else who sounded pretty good. Granted, Lorenzo Music's voice will forever be Garfield's, but since I can't imagine Murray doing a weekly animated series, whoever did those commercials would be a good choice.

Dave Coulier could prove a good choice as well. I know some people can't stand him, but personally he's always cracked me up and I think he's extremely talented when it comes to voices.

Dave Coulier is probably the best choice since Lorenzo Music has passed on, and Bill Murray doesn't voice for cartoon series. They need someone who can imitate Music and Murray, and Coulier proved he could do it with Venkman. Plus that'd make an awesome Jeopardy question.

If I may interject, Lorenzo Music was the first voice of Peter Venkman on Real Ghostbusters when the series debuted in 1986. Dave Coulier took over when the series was remade as Slimer! and the Real Ghostbusters in 1988.

Actually, I think Coulier took over in 1987 at the beginning of Season 3, though I thought I'd also read that it was sometime during Season 2. (And I'm assuming by 1998 you really meant 1988. :) )

I absolutely love Garfield. The 70s comics, the whole series, U.S. Acres, everything.

Oh yeah, something tells me that Kids WB! is gonna take this....maybe Cartoon Network will, I don't know.

Say what now? Is this in the collected books yet? I haven't been as excited about those as I have been 6 years ago... it just seems a bit stale now rarely getting a big laugh like it used too...

But so long as Garfield looks like his toon self, and as many old show people are brought back as possible, I'll give it a chance.

I liked the second movie ALOT better than the dull as nails first movie..

Don't get too excited, folks. There hasn't been any recent news on this proposed series in a while, which is why this thread was created in the first place.
