I am a 32 year old female Deputy who was wrongfully terminated from the Sheriff's Office recently. On my termination paperwork, they listed "issues related to proficiency with firearm" at the top of the list of several false allegations. I have ALWAYS qualified on my gun without any problem. I once had a firearms instructor tell me I shoot better then half the men in the agency. However, I allegedly "broke" 3 agency issued Glock 21 SF ambi-release guns. Long story short: After leaving the range one day with a brand new Glock 21 the agency issued me, I struggled to load the magazine. This was a new design Glock came out with for left handed shooters where the magazine button was ambidextrous and could be pushed in from either side to release the magazine. No matter how hard I tried, the loaded magazine would not seat itself in the gun. A piece a plastic fromw the magazine release button then broke off in my hand and the gun needed repair. They issued me another brand new gun which I also qualified on and that gun also broke under the same circumstance! I never did not qualify but continued having weapon malfunctions and trouble releasing and reloading magazines. I was told by the training lieutenant I needed remedial training “not because I can’t shoot, but because I don’t know how to load my magazine properly!” I kept insisting it wasn’t me, that it was the gun. My own husband could not push in the magazine release button using two hands so it definitely wasn’t a strength issue. The new ambidextrous buttons were obviously defected! The sergeant and lieutenant verbally belittled me and accused me of breaking 3 brand new guns! During an in-service training day, my gun continued malfunctioning and the magazine release button kept getting stuck. I was ordered off the range and threatened with my job by the lieutenant. About 2 weeks later, I received an email from the agency’s armorer stating my gun (the Glock 21 they issued me and I kept “breaking”) was one of many that needed to be replaced. He stated there was a defect in the ambidextrous magazine release button and he needed to swap out the frame. I told the armorer everything I had been through and accused of with that gun. He said, “Oh, this wasn’t your fault, it was definitely the gun!” I later found out approximately 53 guns had to be replaced from our agency for the same defect! ANY ADVICE? IS ANYONE ELSE AWARE OF ISSUES RELATING TO THIS WEAPON, the Glock 21 SF ambi release? I am now unemployed with it in my permenant file that I had "proficiancy issues with my firearm"
