any information on "the rod", a form of contraception =)?

so like, im getting the rod today and i know very little about it. i am 16 and i know how it works but i dont know side effects.... ive heard your periods stop and ive also heard you can bleed for ages at a time..... so whats actually true? does it hurt? what are the side effects?? cheers all xx =)
