I'm looking for anyone who has had a similar experience to the one that I am currently having. My MRI showed mild lurabar stenosis, budging discs (although the report didn't say it - the doctor did after she saw the MRI) and what I guess can be called early stage arthritis. I was also read on the report that my L5-S1 was "hypoplastic and most likely immobile". When I last saw my doctor four days ago, she told me that "we were not sure of the reason of my pain", which confused me, since my MRI seemed to make it clear that something is going on in there. She also wanted me to try Cortisone injections, which I am hesitant about - if she claims that they don't know what is causing the pain, how would they know where to inject? I've been considering seeing a pain specialist at this point mostly because I'm frustrated, has anyone seen one and had success? Any ideas are appreciated, I'm losing sleep over this because of leg and lower back/pelvic pain.

I see a pain management specialist every month for the past year or more. It made a big difference in my care and diagnosis. I have very similiar back problems to yours. My doctors had told me the same thing, we aren't sure what is causing your pain. The pain clinic found out almost instantly what was wrong and I had several injections, and other procedures done. I definently wouldn't let someone inject me without knowing what is wrong with me or where to inject. It can be very dangerous, and possibly make things worse. Cortisone is probably not a good idea because it hides the pain even though the problem is still there, sometimes causing worse damage and more pain because people over do it when the can't feel the pain being caused. Some other injections can be helpful at times. Steroid injections can help bring down swelling, but can also make you gain alot of weight quickly. I would definetly check into seeing a pain clinic. It can help you get on the right track to getting better faster. I hope this is helpful information for you.
Bless you
Corrine
