What is reality? What you can see, smell, taste, hear, feel? These are just chemical reactions that are processed by our very minds. How do we define reality? How do we know that we are seeing the same thing as everyone else? Think of the modern painters (surrealists, cubists, etc.) do they see the world as we do? Granted their view is most likely altered by the use of drugs (in at least some cases) it is these drugs (chemicals) that alter their perceptions. If such perceptions can so easily be altered what is reality? Once you realize that things only have meaning if you give them meaning you can accomplish anything. I used to be very heavy. What I realized was I was risking my life for just a momentary taste of something. Yes I occasionally eat some cake or pie or ice cream, but I don’t really long for it. What is the difference between ice cream and apples? Turkey and steak? Besides their nutritional content our mind is the only thing that makes them different. You determine ice cream is smooth, rich, and sweet while apples are crunchy and tart and sweet. Both can be viewed as dessert with one actually improving your health and the other mostly wasted nutrition. At a biological level your body just detects the different nutrients. Everything in our lives is set on by urges. It is how you act on these urges determines the course of your health. You can train your body to crave different things. Not just junk food, but to stop smoking, procrastination, negativity, or any other bad habit. Just like the painter can alter their own perception of the world to make a living, so can everyone else to help improve not only their lives, but the lives of those around us. Reality is only as real as you make it.
