Any help with a horse's pedal bone fracture?

My 16 year old shire cross gelding has been on and off light work for the last year as he's been very stiff and on and off lame ish...... We had the vet come and look at him as he's on a continued prescription of bute for his suspected arthritus.... vet said we may have to retire him.
A few days later we noticed he was suddenly VERY lame on his right foreleg..so we called the vet and a different vet came out and said he had a high pulse in his foot but not any heat or anything. So she said he might have a foot abscess or possibly a pedal bone fracture. We poulticed his foot and had him in for two days. After two days he seemed very comfortable so we put him out and he looked almost completely fine. Then the next day he is looking uncomfortable again.... Does anyone have any experience of pedal bone fractures?
