Any good and effective guides on HTML?

I've always been into HTML ever since 5th grade. And because curiosity killed the cat, I went on my own way learning it.

While I did self-study it, it WAS only a matter of learning it randomly as I edit layout codes I use for a variety of sites. I wasn't serious at that time, only curious. And all this time, I only get to know the basics. Period.

I want to start from the beginning, making my way systematically towards more advanced stuff. You could say that I'm homeschooling myself about HTML.

Anyways, I want a guide that tackles step-by-step instructions on constructing HTML and has images to support it. As you can see, I'm the type of person who is better off learning stuff that has visual aid with it. I neither want a guide that tackles only on a certain thing (such as creating tables) nor do I want a guide that is not systematic. Remember, I want to study HTML as a whole, and that I'll only be studying it by myself that's why the guide must be systematic.

Help me out. I need to be inspired this summer vacation. Please and thank you.

PS: In the meantime, I'll also be looking for some neat guides.
And you might laugh at me, but I don't really know much about what HTML means. So it would be much preferred if the guide also has some good history background of HTML.
