Any games similar to Sid Meier's Civilization?

I've been playing these games for years yet most people have never herd of it! Has anyone played any similar games (turn based), maybe with a little less war and a bit more politics. I love the games, but find its almost impossible not to get into wars and would sometimes like more diplomatic options.
 
Rome Total War (its the best) There are other Total War games. Or Perhaps another Sid Meier's Civilization

Believe it or not theres a lot of building up towns and cities and stuff and the battles are really easy and fun! Check the game out.
