have free time!? if you clicked on this, thank you so much for reading this.

i just registered for a community college in the fall, a few weeks ago..

now, i took out the max stafford (5,500) because i thought i was going to be paying both semesters, but my parents just told me that they would help me out with school, so they're giving me 2,000...

thats enough for my first semester! so now here's the thing.

i'm going for my bachelors in film, and i need equipment.

now, first of all. when my parents give me the two thousand dollars, i want to be able to pay off my first semester of college with MY PARENTS CHECK, and get the stafford amount of 2,000 dollars into my account so i can purchase my equiptment..

is this possible?

i would use my parents money, but they're giving me a check.. and i dont want to tell them that i'm using their money on equiptment ( i know i'm going for film, but i feel like if i said that they would agree to not give it to me. so i want to use my stafford money)

please comment, even if you're not an advisor and if you have any ideas about what i might do and if this is possible THANK YOU :)

I do have a financial aid background and you can do this. The Stafford loan will come in the form of a check and you can deposit it into your account to pay for anything that helps you go to school.

Some students use the money to pay for books, others buy a car and gas, some will get a computer or film equipment.

Be careful, though, about buying anything right now related to your major. You will take general ed classes for the first 2 years and then you will get into major-specific classes. By the time you are in class, the equipment will undoubtedly change.
