Any examples of a current religious event that has made society a better place?

Something that largely impacted and was helpful to society that can be credited solely to one organized religious group? Do you think science has done far more or religion? Be nice enough to give an example and state why.

I'm pretty sure there were some around Asia, but I don't know since I don't live there. In Europe, the Middle East and America, I don't think there have been any for the past 11 years...
