Any Ambient Lovers?

When I installed Ubuntu (a linux operating system) I started playing around with the music clients and found a bunch of free internet radio stations out there. I never new there were so many.

I started listening to Ambient stations and really got hooked on a couple. Stations like groove salad and others are just great to have playing in the background while studying.

I went to the local Borders and they didn't have any ambient music there. Looks like I'm stuck with Internet radio for now.

Anyone else into this type of music or these types of stations?? ANy suggestions?

Groove Salad is cool...they play more than Ambient though (Trip Hop, Downtempo, Intellegent...etc). If you're looking for suggestions I'll offer over: Bonobo, Thievery Corporation, Zero 7, DJ Shadow, Imogen Heap, UNKLE, Massive Attack, Jill Scott, Sade, Kruder & Dorfmeister, Smoke City, Morcheeba and Esthero.

Hey cool thanks for the suggestions. I'm not sure I understand what all those different labels/styles of music are though...I'm not sure I've ever been very good at classifying music - my frienRAB are always correcting me.

Sade was one of my favorite artists growing up....haven't heard anything from her in years.

I've never been much for music sharing primarily because I'm known people that got viruses and other nasty programs from their music downloaRAB. So what's the best way to hear these artists??? Just buy the CRAB???

I've really been getting into Zero 7 lately. It's the kind of music you just never get tired of listening to. Definitely check out Simple Things, and When it Falls. Later, check out The Garden. It's a bit different than the other two, but still great.

Zero 7 is phenominal. Sia, the vocalist for the song Destiny, is touring right now solo. i wish she was stopping through Atlanta, but if she's playing close to you i'd totally recommend the show. i hear her voice is astounding live.

as far as getting the music, go for torrents if you're just browsing. if you really dig a certain artist at that point then purchasing the album is the best way to go of course.

I'm into all types of ambient. If you need any further recommendations just let me know and I can list other types of music such as space music.

Also have to add my current favorite chillout cd

Sweet...thanks everyone for the suggestions.

I'm not that familiar with torrents but I remember in the early napster days, music files were known to have viruses imbeded in them. Is this still the case or no??
