Any advice on my exercise routine? I am training for boot camp...?

I am applying to OCS right now, and I am really trying to work out harder. I run at least 2 miles a day and do 100 sit ups. The running is good, I can do 1.5 miles in 13:00 minutes and I am still bringing that down, hopefully to 9 or 10...I was a runner in high school but I haven't done it in a couple years so I am still working on getting that back. However, I have been getting bad shin splints. I take a day off here and there, ice them a lot, and stretch, but they always come back and it can be painful to run. I have heard about taping my legs, but I haven't tried that yet. Does anyone have any advice on how to deal with shin splints? And also, how many miles should I eventually run a day...3? 5?

My big problem is push ups. I can barely do 10. My goal is to be able to do 50 before I go to boot camp in the 2 minutes that they allow you. Right now I am doing 10 push ups every 30 minutes, so I do about 200 a day total. However, my form is less than perfect (I don't know if I am going down far enough, but I doubt it) and it doesn't seem to be getting easier. Should I just keep doing push ups this way, or is there a better method to get me to do more? I am really struggling with these...
Ok to clarify - I am not exercising to lose weight, I am not trying to diet. I am training for boot camp. Meaning I want to be in the best shape I can be before I go. So this is purely about working out, being able to run and do push ups, it is not a question about how to lose weight.
