I have always been a worry wart but it seems that my anxiety is getting the better of me. I am scared to drive by myself because I am afraid of having a panic attack---heart pounding, sweating, body shaking, and dry mouth. I take 1/2 of .25 mg of Xanex before hand but it doesn't seem to help. Maybe I should try to take the whole pill, but then I'm leary it will make me too drowsy. I usually take someone with me while driving or talk to someone on my cell phone. This has been developing for the last year and is getting worse. My doc wants me to start taking Lexapro but I don't even want to start taking those type of medications if I can do things a different way. Anyone have any ideas?

I have anxiety when driving half the time. But having someone with me would make it worse! I've been thinking it could be our diet. I don't have the sweating or body shakes; that's panic. I get pretty bad anxiety, though.
They will of course try and put us on more than one drug; I think that's a mistake and that we need counseling. But why would I need that when I've told so many people my problems already?? Have you?
Anyway, I'm in withdrawal now from Xanax, day 15. Very bad experience. Someone said you have to get off them eventually anyway. I felt so good, esp sleeping, on X. But I don't have any now. After twenty four years!

you are not alone its a nightmare just thing about getting in the car to go anywhere

I have a twist to mine while driving. I can't drive south on the highways, if I do, panic attacks will ensue. I can drive north on the highways until the cows come home and I am 85% fine...Go figure that one, LOL!

The only thing I can think of is that to go south, I would be heading into downtown, passing all the loops and merge traffic. A lot of traffic going on.

Driving north is driving into the next town and it's a one shot deal.

Though I can remeraber when I had my first panic attack in the car. I had witnessed a wreck, stopped to help, the guy tried to steal my car, my doors were locked. He ran off when another lady called 911. The very next night I entered on the highway where I did the previous night, exactly where the wreck happened the night prior and wammo~ I had a panic attack in the car for the first time.

[lang=id]I have a problem of anxiety while I drive. I think there are many ways to reduce anxiety while driving. Understand which factors may be working together to source your anxiety. Its enough for this problem.[/lang]
