Anyone take antidepressants for chronic low back pain or failed back surgery syndrome from a spine fusion? I have never taken any before but it has been one year since my spine fusion and I am in constant pain. I am wondering if it will not only help my mental state but also relieve the pain. Since I can't work out or be active I am terrified of gaining weight and I have read some cause weight gain. Any recommendations? Insight?

>>> Hi justmarried and welcome to the forum. Yes, indeed, most people in chronic pain do take anti-depressants. YOu may have to try different ones til you find the one that works best for you, though. I can't make any recommendations because what works well for one, might not be right for someone else.

At what level did you have your fusion? What kind of pain are you having? Is your surgeon aware of this and what is he doing to help you? If he isn't doing much, I suggest getting a second opinion. I am wondering if you have had a new MRI lately, to see if there is any new problems. If not, you should have one, and if you have, you could ask for a recommendation to a pain management specialist. They have all kinRAB of tricks up their sleeves to help a variety of pain

Please stay in touch and let us know how you are doing. The board is slow on weekenRAB, so you may not get many replies until tomorrow.

Best of luck.
