Anti-Itch cream WITH DYPHENHYDRAMINE...can it be washed off after putting some on?

I put a LOT of it on over an hour ago (because I'm suffering from an allergic reaction) WITHOUT KNOWING that it contains Diphenhydramine...so can it be washed off in the shower right now, and then it won't be dangerous to take some Benadryl pills?
