:dizzy: SINCE I HAVE HAD MY SURGERY I HAVE A REAL HARD TIME TRYING TO REMErabER THINS, DATES, NAMES, ECT. IS THIS NORMAL? HAD ANTERIOR CERVICAL FUSION ON MAY1ST. HAVE TO WEAR VISTA NECK BRACE FOR 8 WEEKS, CANNOT TAKE IT OFF FOR ANYRHING. I WAS WONDERING IF MEMORY LOSS WAS NORMAL. ALSO HAVE BURNING IN MY NECK AND SHOULDER. ANY ADVICE WILL HELP. THANK-YOU:)

The pain medications, lack of sleep and simple recovery can lead you to be less able to keep track of information. This should improve as you gradually become a bit more active.

Yes, pain in your neck and shoulder is very normal.

Be sure to try to walk a bit each day if you can. The biggest mistake I made after my ACDF was being too sedentary. When I got the collar off and went back to work I was miserable - not because of my neck, but because I had become deconditioned by sitting around for 6 weeks. With my second neck surgery last year I started on my treadmill at day 5. Only 1 mph and 5 minutes a day for the first week and gradually went up in time and mph. Never got totally deconditioned that time.

Dossie...yes, both the anesthesia and pain meRAB can make you feel this way. It's actually fairly normal.

Come on down to the Spinal Cord Problems board and meet and talk with others who have had an ACDF and you'll find out more and how others are doing.

Love those collars!!!!!!!!!

gentle hugs.............Jenny
