Answers from car people! Transmission in a 98 ford contour.?

My car recently busted the timing belt so i had it replaced and right before it broke the check engine light came on does that sound like it makes sense? any way after they rplaced it nnot even 7 days later my tansmission seems to be "slipping" and the light came back on so does any one have any thought of what to do?
ok low gear but, the auto zone here said it wasnt free but thanks for the idea.
 
If you have a Auto zone nearby have them read the codes for free. A transmission failure will trigger a check engine light.
