Would it be a bad idea? IMO YES!
Sure Ego comes into play, but it's much more than that.
Nokia doesn't have enough time to work on Symbian alone (especially supporting it) plus they are trying to find time to get MeeGo up and going to be shipped out. (And we are also assuming that they are going to support it)
When would they have time for Android? Even as a side project it would be a mess IMO.
Let's say they make a new phone called the N99 with Froyo. By the time they get it out, Gingerbread would be right around the corner.
There's no way that they would be able to find time to port Gingerbread. They can't even find time to get the N97 up to 3.0.
I totally understand where you are coming from, but IMO it would be OVERLOAD!...
