Should I taper off over months and months like people say to do, or will I be that much worse off if taper totally off 8 mg in 6 weeks? I want to go through withdrawal during Christmas because I can't afford to miss 1 week-2 weeks of classes without failing, and I heard it takes that long. People that taper off gradually over months seem to have all the same problems with insomnia and cold sweats etc. so my question is, will the withdrawals be that much worse if I reduce by 2 mg a week or so than if I do it more gradually? Does it really matter that much if I'm going to feel bad anyways?

Thanks,

I am so angry right now. I am reading all these forums and people are saying that they still feel withdrawal after 16 days after weaning down to .5 mg/day. I should have just kicked the dope without the suboxone. Now I'm just addicted to suboxone and I've wasted thousanRAB of dollars on doctor trips and pills just to prolong the process of withdrawal, which will apparently now be even worse and much, much longer than heroin withdrawal. My doctor never told me I'd have any withdrawal symptoms whatsoever. Curses!

I am currently on 16 mgs of suboxone a day. I had to stop last month for surgery in order for the pain meRAB they gave me afterwarRAB to work. The week before I took 8 mgs Monday thru Friday. Saturday and Sunday I took 4 mgs. Monday I didn't take any and about halfway thru my work day I started having some withdrawals. By the end of the day I felt awful. I called my doc and he told me I quit taking it to fast. He told me to take another 4 mgs and then nothing 24 hrs before my surgery. ( which was on Wednesday ) I got thru Tuesday ok not feeling great but I made it. I had surgery on Wednesday and took the pain meRAB for 5 days. Monday morning I started taking my normal 16 mgs of suboxone and felt like a new woman. Anyways, from what my doctor explained to me was when they start weaning you off the suboxone it is 2 mgs at a time. You will stay on that for a month or so before they drop you down another 2 mgs. It's a slow process and it is supposed to control the withdrawals by weaning you down so slow. Take your time and hopefully that way will work for you. Good luck!
P.S. I've been on 16 mgs for 9 months. I'm not sure when I'll start dropping down.
