Thanks, -Kelly-!
Did you? I'm glad to have inspired another looksee at the movie. It really is the best, isn't it?
I think I may post the little clippings I have from "The Avonlea Chronicles". It's from a silly Anne club I used to belong to. They're mostly just little bios on the actors and such. Nothing really remarkeable, but, some may like. It's a bit dated, but, could be a little informative like what Jonathan Crombie had been up to. I'll try to transcribe later today.

Again, thank you for the welcome. It was most kind of you.

I really like these movies. But I think my favorite parts are in the first one when Anne, Diana, and Gilbert were young

I love AOGG! It is the shiz! lol I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! I will have to come back and post more, but right now I'm watching Gilmore Girls. lol

Oh, I love Anne of Green Gables! They use to be favourite books when I was younger, they are so good. And I love the movies/TV series. Which one is it really? Because where I live they aired it with several episodes.

I want to read the books again, but I can't just yet. I heard some time ago that all of the Anne books weren't originally translated into my language so my collection is missing a couple. Luckily, now also the rest of the books have been translated, I just have to buy them soon. I'm reading another series by L.M. Montgomery right now, "Emily of the New Moon". Do you guys know the books? I didn't read them when I was little cos somehow I thought they were boring ( ) but recently I decided to give them a second chance and I found them to be almost as good as the AoGG books. :D

I used to belong to an Anne of Green Gables club (as embarrassing as that is to say). And, I have all these ancient tid bits and articles on the first two series that I should probably post. But, you are right... there was something remarkeable about the Anne books. My sorority sister couldn't stop reading Anne of the Island and that's how I learned about Anne. But, when the mini series came out, I was completely enfatuated with it. This was during the Laura Ashley era so I probably started to dress like her with the huge bowhead included... as we all did.

I think what made Anne 1, the series really work and be sooo successful was it was so close to the original first novel which even Mark Twain was enchanted with. It was a little like Christy... which is probably why that first season of that tv show was amazingly good.

I have all the Anne books and more, but, I had a hard time reading past the first novel. The book Gilbert started to loose his appeal as each book went through because he seemed more and more ordinary with each passing novel, not like Jonathan Crombie. The novel Gilbert was almost non-existant in Anne of the Island. But, seeing him in the first mini series really was what hooked me and made me read. Megan Follows did an amazing job playing her and watching her portray a character realistic grow, quiet and mature. And, Jonathan Crombie was just amazing.

To be quite honest... I had a hard time with Anne 3. I didn't like the idea that Anne was interesting in another man when she was supposed to be completely and totally devoted to Gilbert. Yes, she went to Europe to search for him, but, the whole orphan thing felt contrived and that new love interest...

(SPOILER)

...dying was just too convenient. And, I just didn't feel Anne loved Gilbert like she should have. I didn't think she did in Anne 2 either. But, that could be because Megan Follows didn't really have chemistry with Jonathan Crombie. And, I'm sure it's hard to appear interested... when you're not. But, Gilbert seemed to really love Anne. Maybe that's why I watched and loved Anne 1 so much.

I absolutely and completely adored Anne 1. It was so inspiring. I had an aunt who took care of me when I was growing up who was very Marilla, so, I completely related. And, even though I didn't think I had a Gilbert, an old beau says he was mine and I was his Carrots. But, we were only twelve, so that doesn't count. But, it did end with a kiss under the mistletoe at seventeen, so, to him it counts. :D I didn't marry him, though. I married a man who is just like him... a Gilbert. :D He refuses to accept anyone as my Gilbert other than him... hahaha!

But, Anne 1 really was amazing. And, Gilbert giving up the Avonlea school just for her was beyond compare.

It's an all-time favourite for me too, though I'm sad to say I've never seen the third movie - so obviously I can't compare it to the first two ones. I loved the scene where she mistakes the liquor for syrup & Diana ends up completely drunk ! And the one when she unintentionally dies her hair green !

:bump:

I just re-watched the first and second movies yesterday, so I thought I'd come and revive this thread a bit :)

I agree that I think Diana was always envious of Anne but it was very personal and never really directed at Anne. She never felt bad feelings towards Anne because of her own personal feelings about what she wanted.

Cherrios I very much agree that had Anne never come to Avonlea, Gilbert and Diana would have gotten together, although I'm not sure they would have stayed together  It definitely wouldn't have been the epic love that Anne and Gilbert had.

I liked in the movie at Diana's wedding how Anne got jealous even though she didn't seem to realize it.
Gilbert: I'll drive you home.
Anne: What about your lady friend?
Gilbert: She won't mind. I can explain.
Anne: She seems like a very accomplished young lady.

And I love what Anne says to Josie Pye when Josie makes fun of Anne wearing the same dress twice: "But you're so fortunate; the only thing you've ever had to wear twice is a sour expression." :lmao:

Well said Cheerios.

Also, I would think Diana would be jealous of Anne because she always had opportunities. Diana's mother didn't even let her go to high school (queens) and all the other girls got to go.

But I love that Diana was never green. And I agree, Gilbert is the perfect guy. :sigh:

I started an Avonlea campaign thread, in case anyone is interested. :)

Oh yes, Diana was jealous of Anne, here she had the unwavering love of in Diana's mind the most perfect boy and she just kept rejected him.

And I do honestly think that if Anne had never show up. Diana probably would have ended up with Gilbert. He really wasn't interested in Josie, and Diana was one of the few girls in their age group that was kind, smart, and actually someone he could talk to. Plus she was really pretty, so if anything else Gilbert's hormones would take over. Though Gilbert wasn't really the type of guy who went for a girl just because of their looks.

He fell in love with Anne when he was sixteen because she's wasn't like the other girls. He fell even more in love with her when she finally agree to be friends and he became one of her best friends. And then when she finally returned his love, he loved her more than ever.

Gilbert is one of the guys, people dream about having in their lives. He's smart, kind, respectful, funny, challenges you, is open minded, and stands for what he believes in. He was the first fictional character I ever loved and always wanted to find a guy just like him.

I think in some ways that Diana was always jealious of Anne. I mean that Anne wasn't afraid to follow her dreams where as Diana was afraid of what others would think.

Remember that Diana had a crush on Gilbert. I always thought she did anyways. Didn't she ask her in the book or something about if it was okay to go out with Gilbert. I can't remember it was something about a dance or something

But anyways I can see where your friend is going with this because who wouldn't be jealious of Anne? I mean come on we all want that hot lookin man Gilbert!!:D
