Ok, so I had a pretty cool game idea: all summer long, we’re going to create an virtual anime block called AnimeX.
We’ll have a meraber act as the Vice President of Programming. This meraber will create the schedule for the week and post it. The meraber will have total control of the schedule with one caveat: since the fantasy anime block is currently airing in the United States, the programmer can’t put a show currently airing on American SyFy, CN, Adult Swim, Nick, Nicktoons, Disney, or Toon Disney. The rights to those shows are “unavailable”. Everything else is fair game. Most people who want to be programmer will likely be given that opportunity this Spring/Summer at some point.
A second meraber acts as the President of the channel, who publishes show ratings at the end of the week. The ratings for the shows are based on the talkbacks for the particular show. If Toward the Terra, for example, is consistently being discussed by multiple merabers and is getting a lot of positive comments in that week’s AnimeX talkback thread, then the show may get a 3.0 rating. On the other hand, if the show is getting barely any attention, then the show may get a 0.3 rating, etc. The President may replace the VP of Programming for either poor ratings or just to shake up the schedule. He/she can also change the block name or mandate a new block name or specially themed week or day.
Viewers can watch the shows anywhere they can find them (Hulu, personal collection, library, other methoRAB, etc), and can watch either the sub or the dub. If the viewer previously watched the episode, he/she may absolutely join in the discussion of it. Sub vs dub arguments are only allowed on an episode by episode basis. This could be a great opportunity to a) watch something different from your usual stuff, and b) have episodic talkback for shows that are not currently airing.
The Format:
There would be one thread per week created by the VP of programming, titled “AnimeX talkback 3/whatever to 3/whatever”.
Inside the thread, the VP will post the schedule in a similar format to this:
M
5:00 Show – Episode Nuraber – Episode Title
5:30 Show – Episode Nuraber – Episode Title
Etc.
The VP has total latitude to do what/he she wants within the confines of the block, which is Monday through Friday, "5-7pm". The VP could make it all anime movies, intermingle short series with long series, all action, all shoujo, anime movies on Fridays, etc. Remeraber that the goal of the block is to increase your viewership and keep your current viewers happy while maintaining the credibility of the block. Viewers should try to keep episodes to the correct day that the episode plays, but it is not mandatory. On Saturday or Sunday, the President will release the week’s ratings, and the VP of Programming will create a new thread on Sunday night for the following week.
I will start as the station President and I’ll need a VP of Programming. Any takers?
Suggestions?
