Have you ever avoided or delayed watching a series due to positive hype? Because you just want to save it for later?

This is something I have done. Anime for me is sometimes as much a time filler as much as a source of "perfect" entertainment. I simply do not want to spoil myself. If I watch something good I next might just choose something that I know might not be so great. And if there is some series out there I know of that is most likely right down my alley I might delay watching it just so I know it'll still be there for me later.
...I was the type of kid that rationed my Halloween candy so I'd still have some Snickers bars left when it was emptying out and I wouldn't be stuck with only SweeTarts and those unlabeled toffees in the cellophane, and there would still something really good left by the end of November.

Right now I'd say the one that I've been holding off on despite knowing it very well might rate as excellent or masterpiece in my estimation is Kino's Journey. I've heard great things, I've noticed like-minded members rating it very highly, yet I still have not attempted to watch it.

Maybe I'm waiting for a run of really bad anime choices or one just horrible show ending to pick it up.
...I guess there might also be the issue that I believe it's an open ended series.

There are some other ones too, In the more romantic/dramatic vein I still have not watched past the first episode of Nana or have tried out any of Nodame Cantabile yet I have watched Samurai Harem AND Ah My Buddha/Amaenaide yo! in the past couple months (although those may have been in reaction to the great pleasure I had in watching Cross Game).

So, just how crazy am I? (that reminds me, it took me months to get around to watching Trapeze as well- despite my correct assumption that I'd like it)

I've never delayed a series I'm wanting to watch (outside of currently finishing a series I'm watching). I tried with my last order, but it didn't work out well.

Saving the "best for last" is foolish for me to do because two things are guaranteed: 1) Someone will spoil it, and it's always the best scene and 2) By the time I finish the series, enjoy it immensely, and go to buy figures, they're all sold out.

Not much I can do about #2, but consumption of newer anime is a top priority now. K-On!! is going to be one of these series. I can just feel it. Hence why I'm buying the figures before I watch the series.

Even if I don't like the series, the figures are great on their own.

This might apply to The Sky Crawlers in my case. I have heard much praise directed towards it, and I hold the director in a mostly positive light.

However, I find myself reluctant to play the disc. One fears it may impose a burden upon my idle thoughts, in much the same way that the one of the director's more famous works did. Perhaps the twists it apparently subjects to the viewer will not be of the sort I appreciate. Perhaps, perish the thought, I'll react to it not with joy but with tedium or worse.

With hope, such initial hesitation will eventually be overcome. Maybe I'll give it a try tomorrow. (The creed of the procrastinator, that is.)

No, but I have a number of series that I've put "On Hold", in order to watch other things, which get rotated in when I finish something.

omg when i hear about a good anime or something i wait till all of the episodes have come out and since i can i watch it all and if i have to stay up for the next 24hrs then i will then if still not finished i'll sleep and watch it till it's over.

There are some episodes I came across during the ANN tournaments that people spoke very well of that I baught and didn't watch for a long time. Like Planetes and Fantastic Children and Serei no Moribito. I thaught all 3 where awesome. But I probably did save them for a time when I didn't have any Anime to watch :) So I guess that counts. It's not something I plan or do on purpose.

Still in your Anime honymoon eh? the passion will wane I am afraid. I remember watching 200 episodes of bleach in ONE stretch ah those where the days .. The days when I was into Naruto/Bleach

Hm....nah, not me. The closest I've ever come to doing this is telling myself that I hold off on buying the Baccano! Complete Series Box Set, only to give in after about a day or two.

Luckily so, seeing as it's now one of my favorite anime.

I haven't ever literally delayed watching something "for a rainy day," or anything. However, I do tend to get rather insatiably addicted to good series, to the point where I will just marathon it until its done. Between work and graduate school, I obviously don't always have that kind of time to waste, so if I've heard good things about a show, or just think that I will end up really liking it, I will try to avoid it until I know I have the time to waste :)

I don't necesarily save anime for a "rainy day", but if I have a backlog of unwatched anime (which is often) I'll save the series I'm most looking forward to for last. This can backfire ,though, if the show ends up sucking.

yep. 'specially if you've used up your last 4 gig to download it >.

Delaying watching my purchases is very common for me. I really need to be in the right mood. Right now I'm holding off on the last two Mobile Suit Gundam movies, although this has more to do with the fact that they're each 2 1/2 hours long than anything else.

Yeah, this happens to me all the time. It is generally with really well received shows, too. I always have about 4-5 boxsets just sitting on my shelf that I still have to watch. I tell myself that I'm saving them for later but I'm really just being lazy. It is hard to find time to watch anime though. Also, I prefer comedy/slice of life/romance shows like School Rumble, Azumanga Daioh, and the greatest anime of all time, BECK, so when I buy an action show, no matter how well reviewed it is, I'll often neglect it.

Amongst others, I still have Darker than Black, Baccano, and Black Lagoon gathering dust on my shelf because they haven't been watched yet. I should really get to that... eventually.

Nope. ^^

Although there are a few shows I haven't watched because I'm watching something else. :emo: But it's nice to know that I always have something else to watch, too...

I like to rewatch old things that I liked when I was younger, but not so much now. I'll watch one or two episodes of Pokemon, before I realize why I gave it up in the first place, then marathon Naruto. After that, I'll usually wind down with some super robot or comedy shows.

For me it's more like I'll be watching a series and like it so much that I don't want it to end, so I'll delay watching the last episode. Sometimes I'll devour episodes as they're broadcast, but then find myself stopping two or three times while watching the finale because I know that it'll all be over with once the credits roll. Sometimes I'll even wait until I'm in a particular state of mind before I watch the last episode.

It's difficult to explain but sometimes I'll get very attached to the characters and situations, and I'm in the position of liking a lot of series that aren't popular enough to warrant sequels (or are constructed as stand-alone pieces) so there's very little opportunity to re-visit more of the characters and their universe other than re-watching the series later on.
