Animalympics

Okay, I just watched this whole thing. Granted, I go out of my way to avoid the constant spamming of Olympics coverage that we get every time the games are on (seriously, not even game shows are immune to it). Maybe it's just because I'm a sucker for good furry characters in general, but I really, really liked Animalympics.

The animation's a bit cheap, but the character designs are great. The jokes all connect, and some of the gags feel like they came straight out of a Looney Tunes cartoon (things like the weasel gymnast doing impossible things with her body; the ice skating couple turning into a pantomimed argument; etc.). There are also plenty of interesting visuals, such as the Disney acid sequence the otter gets when he's diving. Oh yeah, and I really like otters, so Dean Wilson's probably my favorite character of the bunch for that alone, never mind the cute surfer accent.

Is there anyone else here who liked Animalympics?

I remember watching that on the Disney Channel as a kid. Good fun.

Not surprised it's a somewhat hidden gem. The movie's impact was limited thanks to the American boycott of the Moscow Olympics.

As a big sports fan and a big fan of cartoons, especially classic cartoons, I can say that I watched this pretty much every time I could when it was on the Disney Channel back in the day.

It pretty much combined two of my favorite things at that point and when I first watched it I thought it was pretty cool; by the way, I have to say my most memorable thing about this movie was the Keith Jackson character, I forget what his name was but it was a great impression, probably one of the best i've ever heard, of course I noticed that because i'm a bit of a geek when it comes to sports broadcasting so I thought that was pretty cool.

By the way if you don't know who Keith Jackson is and you're not a sports fan look him up on Google or watch a game he did on Youtube, after you do one of those things and find out about him you'll no doubt recgonize him because of his voice alone; he probably has one of the most familar voices in radio or television history, plus he got his start in Seattle-Tacoma.

He worked at KOMO TV(our ABC station) back in the 50's before eventually working for ABC and becoming one of their lead play by play voices for college football and other sports up until 2006 when he retired.

Oh and on another note, If my math and post count is correct this is my 200th post on rabroad Forums! Yay!

I watched a little bit when I was little when it still aired reguarly on Disney Channel, but a couple years ago I took the chance to watch it again, and it's a pretty good animated special.
And yes, the music score is awesome.

The movie is okay. It drags in some places, and has some stick-over-head morals, too.

The music is mostly inspired, especially born to lose, and the title theme.
