Probably because our society is heteronormative, and most people who don't have a conscious connection with the gay community have a hard time imagining sexual orientation to be any sort of "big deal" in someone's life.



I guarantee that you have.



A man and a trans-woman? Doesn't sound like a gay relationship to me.
 
If you ever want a decent idea of how many gays there truly are in your community, look through the personals on Craigslist.

There's probably 12,000 people in the two cities that I live most of my life in. Walking though town, you almost never see anyone that you would suspect of being homosexual, but the Craigslist m4m posts outnumber straight posts at least 2 to 1.

Guaranteed you've talked to or interacted with someone that is homosexual without realizing it. Even the people that hate gays, and they were never any the wiser.
 
Haha. I love gay guys because I've only ever met one that was mean to me (most even have stuck up for me a time or two). And you know that as a girl, you're safest with a group of gay guys.
