Android : what is going to bring future to me

Well just some ( silly ?? ) thoughts from me.
I am a happy owner of N1.I bought this phone as it has the latest android always and most roms are made for it.I dont care really much for other features that maybe some other android phones have.
As i see while being new to android are that the operating system is not the same on android mobiles.Also i read that Google stopped selling N1 through its webshop and God knows if they ever release a new model.
Well that is what it scares me.How do i move on in the future?What happens if one day i must buy a new phone?
Can i find a similar phone to my N1 with its unique features?
These thoughts may sound silly but i like to think about the future.
I heard that Htc Desire looks like a great alternative to N1 but as i am aware its still on 2.1 even on custom roms.Is that true or there are already custom roms based on froyo?
I would appreciate your comments
 
So you're saying all you care about is custom ROMs on a phone, and no other features?

When you say "while being new to android are that the operating system is not the same on android mobiles", what do you mean? A given version of Android is the same on all phones. Some phones may have custom UIs like Sense or TouchWiz, but these are not Android, these are separate home applications.

Google have stopped selling the N1 and have no plans to sell it again. It was last available to registered developers to replace the HTC Dream Dev phone that they used to sell. Any future stocks they get will also only be available to developers.

You only named one unique feature of the N1 - that it has lots of custom ROMs. The only other feature of the N1 that springs to mind is that it has a trackball which can light up. You're limiting yourself quite highly if your phone must have more custom ROMs than any other phone and an illuminated trackball. How about broadening your horizons and maybe have one of the other phones that can run CyanogenMod (which is the only custom ROM really worth bothering that much about)?

What are the features you really want on a phone? Have you considered that most of the important features of custom ROMs are now readily available in standard ROMs on the latest phones - things like super speed, wireless tethering, USB tethering, etc are all standard on the Samsung Galaxy S for example.

There is no point changing to an HTC Desire when you already have an N1. It's exactly the same hardware other than the trackball - you would not gain anything.

There are custom FroYo ROMs around, yes.
