Hi,

Thinking of buying a tablet and was wondering if it would matter if the device has Android 2.1 (256K ram, 2 gb flash memory).

Immediate concern is are apps for Android OS specific?

Have read that Android 3.x will require a minimum of 512K ram

Haven't heard anything about Android 3.0 requiring 512 RAM. Google et al have done a good job of backwards compatibility (e.g. just got 2.2 on my old myTouch 3g).

Still, on a tablet, with a bigger screen, I would think you'd want the extra memory and 256 may be kind of light.

Android Honeycomb should require a 1Ghz CPU and 512MB of RAM. Your applications that work with 2.1, 2.2, 1.6, etc - will function on Honeycomb. But applications designed for Honeycomb won't work on older versions of the OS.
