Hi everyone!
I am a college student and im looking for an android phone to use like an ipod (no service, just email/facebook/youtube by wifi) I found some nice phones on ebay at a reasonable price but after doing some reasearch, i found out that activating the phone and the gmail thing is hard/impossible without a data plan... xD

Im not looking for a data plan or anything, only to use lika a pda or ipod

The 2 phones are
motorola devour: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200586835269&ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:US:1123

and HTC Dream G1:

I hope you guys know what i mean..haha
I asked the seller of the devour, and he said that i should be able to use wifi without activating but i want to make sure

Thanks!

PS: Its a pleasure to be here ! Tons of useful info!

Not sure on the Motorola phone but you can activate the G1 without a data plan, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=452316, you need to be pretty tech savy though. An easier way is to borrow a sim card from a friend, activate the phone, take the sim card out and you're good to go. I had an extra G1 I ran only on wifi only and it worked flawlessly. You should be able to get a G1 alot cheaper than that.

No, you need to activate it with a sim card that has a data plan, after you sign in and activate it you can take the sim card out and insert yours. You can use the phone but everything else you will need wifi for. Here's another link that might explain it easier.
