There are reports that the new Android Device Manager is out via an over the air update.  It sort of reminds us the Motorola Phone Portal that came with the Motrola Atrix. You can ring your Android, locate it within so many feet depending upon the settings or erase data if enabled.
We tried it out today on two different Android devices and it only worked part of the time.  It could be that the server is busy.
You have to habe background data enabled. When we checked location, it placed one phone in the front yard, instead of the office, but at least we knew approximately where it was. It did locate it within 10 meters, though.
Sometimes the "ring" device function worked and sometimes it didn't after we shut the sound off of two different Android phones.
The device has to registered with a Google Account and you can access Android Device manager it via the web or another Google device..
Android Device Manager rings your phone at maximum volume so you can find it, even if it's been silenced. Or if you can't hear it (say, at that restaurant you left it at last night), you can locate it on a map in real time.
If your phone can’t be recovered, or has been stolen, you can erase all of the data on your device.
To enable Erase Device, you must enable factory reset on your device. To do so, open the Google Settings app on your device, "
