Could someone help me with analying this poem by Emily Dickinson? I am a little lost as to how I would answer these question. I am NOT asking someone to do my homework for me, I'm just asking for a little help. No links to websites please or copy and pasta of websites. I didn't find those helped at all.
Thanks,
"Hope" is the thing with feathers ---
That perches in the soul ---
And sings the tune without the words ---
And never stops --- at all ---
And sweetest --- in the Gale --- is heard ---
And sore must be the storm ---
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm ---
I've heard it in the chillest land ---
And on the strangest Sea ---
Yet, never, in Extremity,
It asked a crumb --- of Me.
1. Discuss Dickinson's use of meter in this poem. What is the pattern of stressed an unstressed syllables?
2. Discuss Dickinson's use of rhyme in this poem. What is the pattern?
3. Write a paragraph in which you discuss the meaning of the poem. What is Dickinson's message? Include in the paragraph a discussion of the principle metaphor that she uses to relay her message. Remember that a metaphor is a comparison in which one thing represents another.
4. If you had to give this poem a title, what would it be and why? Your title should reflect in some way your understanding of the poem.
5. What are two thoughtful questions you could ask about the poem?
Again I'm NOT asking someone to do my homework for me, simply asking for a little help.
Thanks again,
