When Lucas made Ep 1-3 in 1999-2005 there were lots of questions of why did he wait so long, and Lucas has said for years that in 1983 the technology was not availble to do what he had dreamed for the prequels, so he wanted to wait till it was available.
My dad and i were talking about the movies the other night, and he asked me, what breakthroughs were made that made Ep 1-3 actually possible?
What new innovations?
Was it just CGI?
Im sure Corrouscant wasnt possible in 1983 in the way its portayed as early as 1997 (Ep 6), but what else was it?
In the originals, there were a lot of puppets, including 5 people siting inside a rubber skin playing Jabba the hutt. The AT-At's were models controlled by hand. the death star surface was made out of plastic battleship model parts.
But today they can do most of that with just a computer.
But what else finally brought about the changes Lucas was looking for?
