My family and I have been living in this house for 1 year and 7 months. The house and the property are fully owned by my in-laws. The reason why we are living here, directly behind them might I add, is because we are a very young newlywed couple with two small children and their offer was to help us out by living in the rent house. (Definitely based on good faith because they are avidly religious christians!) My father in-law spoke with my husband about the rent and said that the rent would be the equivalent of property taxes and nothing more, otherwise he wouldn't make us pay rent because we were family. He understood our financial position and lectured both of us many times to get our feet underneath us financially so we may have a good start in life. I just found out today that the total amount of property taxes for this house is a whopping $334 for ONE YEAR! That means my husband (their own son), me (their daighter in-law) and our family were had by my in-laws by $5,171.19. In addition to being robbed, they've disrupted and disrespected our home many times, they've disrespected our guests, my mother, us as parents, and treated both of us as if we were idiots and they know-it-all simply because they are ages 53 and 51. My husband is beside himself with guilt, shame, anger, frustration, confusion, and is completely helpless in knowing how to confront his parents about this. I was hoping that someone out there could help us get a better grip on how to handle this situation without seeing the inside of a jail cell.
