forum where posters can debate? rather than just asking questions and receiving answers?
(Especially here in politics which is one of the more interesting forums)

or are they afraid that if they Do allow debate. posters will become too contentious or curse each other out?

Yahoo allows that you add a little more detail regarding your questions. Sometimes those details are lengthy, sometimes not. But in case Yahoo does not realize it, in many instances, 'debate' begins as soon as we start asking and answering questions.

There used to be a discussion thread for every news story Yahoo posted. However, it got so bad - threats, overtly racist comments, threats of violence, etc... that Yahoo shut it down. YA is the successor of that discussion board so I don't think they'd go back.
