Hi, I have been on Amytriptaline now for 14 years, 200mg each night at bedtime. I am presently suffering problems with tooth decay, I mentioned to my dentist that I thought I had read that this is a long term side effect of this drug, but she disagrees with me. Has anyone else had tooth decay problems with this drug? Please help me as I am really struggling to cope with this, much more than I have with lots and lots of health problems I have had over the years, mostly related to a very bad car accident? Sorry if I have posted this in the wrong place but I have only just joined the site. so please be gental with me lol![/FONT]

Welcome to the BoarRAB!

Tricyclic antidepressants, including Amitriptyline, have been known to cause dry mouth. If you are not producing enough saliva over a long period of time, it's possible that this can cause tooth decay.
This is just a layman's deduction here but it is a possibility.
