Amsoil experience

Is it OK to use the Mobil 1 20/50 syn non motorcycle V-twin oil? I've read where almost everyone is using the $23.00 / 5qt Mobil 1 syn oil and I assume it's regular car oil?

Mobile 1 makes a 20w/50 Vtwin, but I a lot of people who want to use synthetic do use that. I would bet that there is very little (if any) difference in the two. At the 2 Wal*Marts here in N. GA.....I can't seem to find the 5 quart containers of the Mobile 1 15/50. I think something has happend. Maybe not enough Harley riders buying it???? I use dino myself.

I guess what impresses me and yet has me concerned is that we have good and the bad yet there is no mechanical failure. If it is our oil, then I'm going to have to change as well. 09 FLHT, new starter and compensator sprocket had to be replaced. on 31k and the Amsoil is changed every 3k. It's expensive, but never had an issue until lately. When it starts cold it sounds like a paint can with marbles inside. Other bikes fired up as a comparison don't do that. They are running HD Syn. Hmm something here says maybe a change????? We shall see. I let you know what the shop says. I still think it's a lifter. It ticks all the time after warm up.
Time will tell. Great Dealership and they are concerned.
Ride Safe, Have fun and remember some gave and some gave their all. Thank a VET....

That one looks really good! BTW, I just bought 2 bottles of the Mobil1 15/50 at the Woodstock Ga. walmart - it's still there aplenty.
And yes, you can run it in a Harley. I thought it was this thread, but maybe the Mobil1 thread where I said I talked to the Mobil tech about it. He even recommends it for us, but of course, not for wet clutches.

Something simple, yet there was a comment made in this group about the auto cam tensioner for the Primary Chain. New on, we shall see in the morning. No rattle up to this point. Now let's see what comes when she is morning cold. I hope nothing but Harley. I need a ride to fix the week long withdrawl!
Ride on, I'll post any changes up to this point.

My '08 RK has 2700 miles on this oil change. Amsoil in all 3 holes and a H-D oil filter. No noise at all when cold, some lifter ticking at idle after it gets hot. And we have been seeing 100 degree days and 110 heat indexes for a while in Southeast Texas. Just looked at the oil and i would call it a normal medium brown color.

I guess the auto tensioner isn't auto when it jumps track. All new in, buttoned up. 300 miles no noise but "Harley". Amsoil in the engine and Blue-Ray in the Tranny. NO noise, quiter 5th (it's an 09) and all is good. Hot, 90 plus yesterday, hauling around two large adults, no over heating, no noise, no issues. Nothing but pure FUN!
Have a Great Day.... Thanks on the so called Auto Primary Chain Tensioner. Think MOCO needs to go back to the standard Primary cover. Make servicing a little easier as well. Just my thoughts and opinion. I may be wrong.
Ride hard and safe. Have a Great remaining season

Tom

last oil change I switch to LUCAS in all three holes and I'll teal ya everything seems to quiet down and tranny shifts great I'll stick with this for a while
