I am a Canadian who pretty much fits the typical hockey-loving stereotype. That being said, I've always wondered why hockey is so unpopular in the US. It most definitely takes the backseat to football, baseball, basketball and even NASCAR. My question is WHY? Don't get me wrong- I love baseball, and I played on my school basketball team last year, but I simply can not fathom how much more popular they are than hockey. Here's what I see:
Hockey is hard-hitting, near constant action. Sometimes seeing a good fight is entertaining too.
Football is 5 seconds of play, then the whistle goes and play is stopped for another 20 seconds. It just seems too slow and sporadic for me.
Baseball is also slow, though not in the same way as football. Just in that the pitcher pitches, batter misses and nothing happens, or he hits it and sometimes it's a home run, but usually a base hit or they are thrown out a first.
Basketball has the most action I suppose, though still doesn't do it for me. I'm not entirely sure what it is. Maybe it's the fact that points are so easy to come by, I have no idea. All I know is I do not find it interesting in the slightest.
And don't even get me started on NASCAR. It is the biggest waste of time and resources I think I have ever seen. The amount of gas they consume, emissions they release and the rubber required to make all of those tires. And all of this so people can watch them drive around in a circle for hours! Makes absolutely no sense to me.
This is just my opinion, and I would love to hear what everyone else thinks.
