Hey folks, Im just curious as to how people get treatment in the US! If you dont have medical insurance, will no hospital treat you? What about the poor people who dont have money for insurance? I'm from Scotland and in the Uk, we pay National Insurance and Tax to pay for the National Health Service and everyone is entitled to free hospital treatment, doctor appointments etc. Even people on benifits who dont pay NI. just find it really hard to imagine a hospital turning injured people away! Does this really happen?
Thanks

It depends on what you go to the hospital for. I know in many hospitals, even if you don't have insurance but you go to the emergency room with some serious condition, they have to treat you. However the treatment you get may be sub-par at best. Quite often if you are poor, you might be able to get medicare from the state but that doesn't really cover alot either. Having lived in both US and UK, I definitely prefer the healthcare in the UK.
