I think it was more realistic although I liked the theatrical ending. The whole movie had some really good messages and lessons in it, much more than the average film and I think it should have had two endings. However I think the theatrical ending is better in showing that there are more ways to life than violence and hate. The alternate ending, though probably more realistic, is a little depressing in that it makes it seem that extremism is the way to go.

Frankly it depends on the person... some people would have been overwhelmed with hate and gone back to the "dark side" but some would have not. I can understand why he would go back to Nazism. He learns to overcome hate and prejudice and when he gets a normal life back a stereotypical gang-banger black kills his brother.

The alternate ending has Ed's character shaving his head after the death of his brother, indicating his return to being a skinhead.

What do you think about this ending? I thought it would have been a lot more powerful in not having the happy ending (not his brother dying, his learning to rise above it all and transcend racism and hate).

How did you expect it was going to end? Like it did, or as the alternate? Which would you have liked better?

i prefer rise above ending.
i think this movie doest just try to tell a good story, but also to make people think, understand or maybe even learn.

showing him going back to his bad ways will just ruin the idea of the movie.

edit: oh and i didnt see the alternate ending...

First off, I haven't seen the alternate ending. Secondly, the regular ending is in no way "happy". The regular ending just shows how the cycle of hate keeps on spinning and taking lives with it. The alternate ending just goes further to show how that cycle is perpetuated.
