In Diary of Bennet H. Barrow, why does Bennet Barrow say he believes slaves should be confined to the plantation when their work is done?

He believes it is in their best interest to stay in an area that is familiar, and new habits could be dangerous.
He believes that slaves will find work elsewhere.
He believes that slaves will get lost and not be able to find their way back to the plantation.
He believes that slaves might be kidnapped by people who want to abolish slavery.

Of course masters didn't want their slaves away from the plantation.

The biggest problem masters had with slaves is that slaves run away.

If a slave has never been off the plantation they would have no clue as to which way TO run once they escaped.
Masters wanted only THEIR way of conducting business to be known, especially if he was doing something bad.
The less the slaves know, the better it would be for the masters.

It was all about control.

So, what is your question hon?
