Am I wrong for wanting a waitress to bring my order to the table the way that...

...I accually ordered it? I feel that part of a waitresses job isnot just taking the order, but making sure that the cook prepared it correctly. Nothing makes me madder than a waitress half way doing her job. Am I wrong?
 
Being a waiter, i know how customers want their food and why they get mad when it doesn't come out right, Sometimes the server cannot check the food before it comes out. They are busy with other tables and doing their best. Servers are just messagers in a sense. They take your order and give to the kitchen and they give the food to the server to the customer. Most of the time, it is not the server's fault that the steak is over cooked or undercooked. Don't put fault the server for something out of their control.
 
I agree with what Jemma Bean said about the server not having the knowledge to know if it is cooked correctly. In that case, it is their job to make sure the problem is resolved to the customer's satisfaction once it is made known to them.
 
Will I have never waited tables but I can say I have put myself in the place of that person. Stop and think a shift for wait staff is normally either the lunch or dinner hours. Now during their shift they will be assigned about 5 tables (not always in one section) to wait on and service about 10 are more tables during the shift. Now with an average of 4 people per table and you have to make sure all are completely happy are you may not even get a tip. Keep in mind tips are what wait staff work for because the hourly wage they receive which is less the minimum wage and goes to pay taxes, SS, and maybe insurance. So back to the math now each table spends $100 and they all tip 10% (15 -20% is customary). That person only made $100 for a shift when $150 should have been the minimum. Now you are rushing to get peoples order to them before it's cold and there is a mistake such as the cook gave you rice in place of beans. Then it is the cooks fault and you let the wait staff have a chance to correct it. If this is a high end restaurant then hold them to a higher level otherwise let it go and be done with it.

you're right, but as far as things being cooked (for example- you ordered your steak rare and it came out well done- server has no idea unless he/she cut into it herself). and please keep in mind that sometimes someone else brings out the food, and they may not check to make sure it's correct. but people make mistakes.
 
She should get your order correct for sure but Ive worked in restaurants my whole life and I know that allot of the time servers have no control in the kitchen and if you try to tell the kitchen what to do you might get a pan thrown at your head.
 
I agree the food should be brought out correctly, however the way that the food is prepped has NOTHING to do with the server. He/she does NOT know if the steak is cooked to your liking or if the cook forgot to put no oregeno in your food. You can't always tell by looking at it and sometimes he/she may put the order in correctly but the cook just messed up. Its understandable to be frustrated, but try not to take it out on the server. Remember, it is his/her job to take your order and bring it to you, along with anything else you may need, not to make it. If you are nice and say something like "I know its not your fault, but this is wrong, could you have them re-make this for me, sorry to be any trouble..." you may even get a free dessert out of it! ;) (The server generally decides how to handle these situations)
 
The waitress's job it to take your order. That means to get it written down the way you specified. She has no other responsibility to you other than checking to see if you need more drinks, desserts, condiments or another order. The cook is responsible for how your food is prepared. The waitress always gets the blame for the cook's mistakes and shortcomings.
