Everyone has missed the fact the the 1098 and 848 are the exact same dimension wise. If you're to tall for a 848 you're gonna feel the same on the 1098. if you were blind and sat on both bikes you'd probably not be able to tell the differance unless you can feel the 5-6 lbs lighter the 848 is.

actually....the seat height is different...
848 is 10mm higher according to tech spec's in ducati model catalog's etc..
but,on further investigation and numerous measures and re-measures,we found that the rear ride height is actually 20mm higher...(we assumed there was a misprint in the advertising material, which happens quite often in my catalogo...sometimes translations come out a little off the mark)
therefore....1098=820mm ride height and 848=840mm ride height, which from my point of view is a considerable difference

i have the opposite problem...im a shorty...coming in at 162cm,63kgs.....with a 'seat' height (mine) of 780mm, the 848's-840mm seat height issue was something of a concern from the word go...
techs at the shop went through the process of lowering via a seat height adjusting link..
all good now....can touch the ground tippy-toed!!

i am aware that ducati produce..'european, and american' models...but i am unsure about their relative differences across the board...(i think mostly speedo read out kph/mph)..
our ducati's here in australia are the european standard model...again im unsure about usa models having ride height differences....but cant really see it being the case...
just my 2cents

I'd recommend holding off on the rear sets until after you ride the bike for a while. I ordered them when I purchased my bike and don't feel that they make that much of a difference. I've got big feet they may help out a bit in that regaurd. 6'3" by the way size 14 hoof. You should get a discount on parts with purchase, get your dealer to give you a week to ride with the stock pegs and then if you feel you need the rear sets make sure you get them discounted. I'll throw out a Matrix plug Aculign rear sets look sharp (if you must have them).

Once again I stand corrected. Yes here too in the states the 848 and 1098 have a different heights. With 848 taller as well. I guess this is due to the different suspensions the two bikes have. However the large components are the same as far as I know and are interchangable.... for example frame/body panels/etc.

absolutely, positively 100% agree with you there rowdy, on the when moving thing.......
but its a lil different for us shorties when we stop.....

my rear height has just gone up again by 5mm after putting on the bolt on damper....and will be changed again no doubt...next week...as am having suspension revalved and resprung.......
and with all due respect to you...wasnt pickin.....just gently pointin....as it is something that ive had to address from a short person's perspective...

lol i totally understand TW, My best friend's ex GF had to lower her SV650 ALOT so she could even touch on it and my GF hates my 06 R6 b/c its ride height is pretty tall. =)

I'm exactly the same height & weight (to be honest the weight fluctuates by -/+ 5kg... normally +).

You will be surprised at how civilised the ride position is. Much more comfortable than the current crop of UJM's I've thrown a leg over recently.

hey not that i have enough money for one,
but would the story be different for the Desmosedici?
is it a smaller bike? would a 6'2" guy be sticking out to much or feel much more out of place?
