I used to have a horrid mountain bike that I couldn't control but last week I bought a new bike - it's not quite like a road bike, but the tires are thinner (although not as thin as road bikes) and it has a seventh gear.
I do a 13 mile route - 6.5 miles to a point and 6.5 miles back. Because it is in the valleys (I live in a hilly part of the UK) I have to get over a lot of hills, and the gradients are very steep.
On my mountain bike, it would take an hour and 20 minutes to do it.
Since I had my new bike, I did the route on Saturday, Monday and yesterday.
sat = 1 hour and 10 mins
mon = 55 mins
tues = 50 mins
How fast am I going, and is it more down to the bike or my fitness? I could go faster, but the wind often pushes against me on the way back. If you are anything between an amateur to pro cyclist what would your pace be?
Also, when I cycle this route I get halfway and have a 2-5 minute break but I don't know if cutting this out would increase my overall time because it might cut my recovery.
