Am I entitled to anything here? Would I stand a chance taking this to court?

My mom died of cancer in January, 1999 (I was 11 years old). She had a life insurance policy through her workplace which put aside $20,000 that I should have gotten at the age of 18. My father (who abused me my whole life) asked me in May 1999 if he could "borrow" the money to make a down payment on a house with his new girlfriend. Of course I said yes (you don't say no to an abuser when you're a child), but I never signed anything so nothing is on paper that I know of. I was 11, so it obviously didn't even cross my mind. Now, 10 years later, he's selling the house for $100,000 more than he bought it for after doing extensive renovations. I haven't spoken to or heard from my father in 8 years as I went into a foster home shortly after he bought the house.

I've been told by some people that I'm entitled to my money, especially now that he's selling the house that he "borrowed" the money for. I've also been told that with I don't have a leg to stand on here since I didn't sign anything.

Advice? Would it be a waste of time and money to hire a lawyer for this? I live in Ontario Canada if that makes a difference at all.
