Following recent storm force winds. a large crack opened up at the base of the chimney and the stack was leaning. The Assessor has said that, in her opinion, there must have been a hairline crack caused by ware and tear and therefore the damage was not caused by the weather. The chimney itself was in a good state of repair and had been Alpine rendered. Had I seen any sign of a crack, I would have done something about it. My builder says I could not have been aware of the damaged bricks under the roof in the loft space. Is it worth pursuing the claim? Any advice would be appreciated.
