Am I alone in that I'm not impressed with the Twilight series of books?

What is the deal with the Twilight phenomenon? I've read part of book one and book two, New Moon. The storyline bored me. I felt it a laborious task to finish reading each chapter. Had to put it down. Plus I've seen the movie. I don't understand how a book, with a cliche storyline, and a movie, with dismal actors is so popular. I know that taste is subjective. And I know that the Twilight series is a romance. Why are these books so popular?
