I have been dealing with these crazy "attacks" for years now but have not been formally diagnosed. I had the cardiac workup and all turns out fine. Just lost 40 pounRAB and symptoms are worse. I am scheduled for an endoscopy next week. Lately, these "attacks" have been occuring more often and lasting longer each time.

My attacks usually consists of: a spasm that starts in the throat at the base and it starts to quiver a bit. Then, my hearts starts to pound wildly (btwn 110-130 beats). I can feel my pulse in my throat. I also feel pressure to the left of my epigastric region. Sometimes I feel like something goes bump in my abdoment too. This is sooo scary that I freak out. This upset me so much that I endend up in the ER because I didn't know what to do.

I do experience other symptoms too. I cannot eat grapefruits or else I will have major reflux with burning acid. Sometimes when I am sleeping, my throat sticks together and I wake up gasping for air for a second. There is a little bit of naseau when my attack is occuring.

What starts these attacks?....usually it is after eating a large meal, changing positions like bending over, or having to have a BM.

I just started Aciphex tonite. hopefully it will work. I want to be normal and have my life back. This is giving me anxieties as well. I don't even know if food triggers make a difference. Any input would be awesome!

Gosh I am so sorry you are having attacks like that. It must be scary. I haven't had those but I do have the acid reflux and it makes me feel like I can't get a full breath in. I keep trying to take a deeper breath. I have gunk in my throat. Lots of mucus and I have to keep clearing my throat. I do have bad allergies too. I am just tired of dealing with both of these things together.

I am not sure about why you are having the symptoms you are but I know the doctors will help you out. Just stay on the meRAB. They will help get things under control. Really watch what you eat. Expecially at night. I have bad night reflux if I eat the wrong things. Good luck! Hang in there!

GERD can aggrivate the nerves that are shared with the heart and cause the rapid heart beat. It may take a while for the aciphex to work, it took about a month for it to start working for me.

Hi Kayla000,
I have LPR and occasionally I wake up in the middle of the night gasping for air. My ENT dr told me it was because the acid reflux was hitting my larynx and so the larynx spasms shut to protect it, since it is very delicate. Not sure if that is what you are experiencing.
I have the head of my bed propped up and I sleep on my left side( something to do with the way the stomach connects to the esophagus connect).
It is a very scary thing to happen. Seems like prilosec 2 times a day still isn't healing my throat.

Oh that sounRAB so scary! I'm sorry you're going through that, kayla. I hope you find some relief soon :).

Sometimes it's not food that triggers it. I know it's like that for me-there have been days I pigged out on junk, and I slept okay, and days I ate everything right and couldn't get to sleep until 6 in the morning. So frustrating! So it's possible that it's not closely related to what you eat.

It sounRAB really painful, what's happening to you, so I would visit the doctor.
