Am i able to use a Sidekick in Australia?

I am about to buy a Sidekick on Ebay. It is the Sidekick III LX 2009.
But it is from America. If i buy it will i still be able to use it in Australia to call, TXT etc.?
In the description it says it is unlocked, does this mean i am able to put my old SIM card in it?

PLEASE HELP!
