Am I a diabetic or a pre diabetic? I have several doctors and saw one of them

on Thursday.? We talked about my A1C test and how it came out at 6.3 . My doctor the cardiologist told me that that means I am a diabetic and need to change my diet, exercise more and take welchol because it will lower my A1C . Later that day I spoke to my Gastroenterologist who told me that means that I am a pre diabetic, not a diabetic. He told me just watch my diet and exercise more. I actually have gastroparesis , eye pains frequently, feet pain which I believe to be nerve pain, and fatigue.

How do I know who to listen to? Am I diabetic, pre diabetic? Can someone help I'm not sure what to believe now ...

For a undiagnosed diabetic the A1C should run below 6 to be considered normal. Mine was 6.4 recently and had to have a fasting blood sugar test and it was high normal.
Like you I have severe gastroparesis and had to have my gall bladder removed because of it working. These are symptoms a diabetic usually can have so any new doctor I have gone to will say "oh so you are diabetic"...which have not been diagnosed as yet.
You need to stay with one doctor who has the results and can follow the readings on it better. He can then see how your test each time it is done is running.
Cutting out the sweets is early treatment if you bs was in normal limits, but A1C was elevated. It will need to be rechecked in couple months, giving you a good reading after cutting your sweets out. This test just shows that for several months your sugar did run higher than normal, so whether pre diabetic or diabetic diet and other instructions.
A cardiologist is not the type doctor who follows a diabetic on a regular basis, you should go back to the gastro or a family physician.
