Hi Everyone

I just was given alvesco by my asthma doctor and I wondered if anyone has been on this medication for asthma.
Thanks in advance for any comments.

I was curious because I hadn't heard of this medication so I just did some internet searching. Looks like Alvesco was just approved by the FDA for use in the US. Most of the articles were from within the last week.

Alvesco is a new generation of inhaled corticosteroid that reduces inflammatory processes. It is supposed to have fewer side effects. There are two different strengths available.

I've been on Alvesco for about 4 months now. It's an inhaled corticosteroid. It seems to work really well for me.

I have heard allot of positive things about alvesco. Today I finally got alvesco 80mcg. I will wait till tomorrow morning to take it. I always get nervous starting a new med. I have read its a pretty safe medication. I know all medications have the same warnings. I just got to stop reading stuff and take the medication and man up hahahaha. Updates on anyones alvesco experience would be nice. I have nobody to talk to about my medications....not even my docotor..I need a new doctor. Thanks everyone.

I also have asthma. i being using alvesco for about 5 months now,It's a red tube. But since my IGE level is 2000 . I was told there is a drug called xolair

I am on my second day of alvesco....and i dont feel better. How long until i start feeling relief ?

Hi just read your post and was wondering what alvesco is. Have asthma as long as I can remeraber and if there is some new drug out there that helps I really would like to know about it. Thanks Sherry

I am taking 200 mcg of alvesco 2 puRAB twice a day. In Canada I am not sure how long it has been around. I was told by my asthma doctor that it goes right to the lungs so it may limit the use of prednisone, I hope. I am currently on advair 500, spriva and have eliminated flovent 500 and added the alvesco just this past week. I am hoping this will help control my asthma more effectively.

I just started on Alvesco last week. I switched over from Flovent, and am using 160mcg, 2 puRAB, once in the morning.

So far, so good. I am breathing better, and I haven't gotten the throat irritation that I sometimes would from Flovent.

well my lungs just feel tight and when i use my inhaler it helps but then eventually the albuterol wears off and i feel tight again. When i started asmanex i dont remeraber it making me feel like this. UGH this is frusterating i just dont have the money to be spending on medication like this....i cant just keep jumping to a million different medications. I might go back on asmanex and try a smaller does and avoid the heart palpations.

I am changing to alvesco eighty twice a day from flovent diskus two fifty twice a day. The flovent has helped but one week im breathing great but the next im not. I was on asmanex and it did wonders BUT gave me heart palpations. So, now im trying to find another med that can work. Is alvesco safe ? and is it suppose to work better then other controllers ?

Thanks I will ask my doc about it. Is it a rescue inhaler or like advair? Thanks again sherry

I was started on Alvesco 80 mcg 2 puRAB twice a day 1 week ago by my doctor. I was also given Omnaris which is the nasal spray form of Alvesco (it's the same ingredient ciclesonide). I didn't notice much difference, but I haven't had a problem in 4 years when I finally quit smoking. A word of caution do not stop taking or miss amy doses. I missed 2 night time doses and had to use use my rescue inhaler several times due to chest tightness. I quit using the Omnaris as it caused too much drainage in the back of my throat. Apparently Alvesco is a corticosteroid and although a much smaller amount than oral steroiRAB like Prednisone enter the blood stream you can still have the same side effects and withdrawl effects of steroiRAB.
