Alternative ways to clear browser history?

I have Mozilla Firefox and I know how to delete my browser history. The problem is that I haven't done it in a very long time, so now there's 80,000 items in my history, and when I try to clear it, Firefox becomes unresponsive and I have to force-quit it. Is there any other way to delete it? I'm on a Mac, by the way.
