Alternative to photo albums?

I was considering storing my photos in boxes instead of albums. I'm running out of space for albums. Do you do this? Do you like this boxes better than albums? Why or why not?

Buy a scanner, scan all the photos, and compile them in one electronic folder, then have them published into a photo-book. Not an album, but a book. It will be much thinner, lighter, and you will cherish it forever.
There are many website who will do this for $20-$30.
